I have run DW over a couple of HFS+ drives connected to the M1 MacBook Pro and all the functions I tried worked nominally including directory optimisation and file tests. You will need to have your license code handy when requesting the updater. Update : I downloaded the updater to my existing v5 copy of DW and it brought both the app in the Applications folder and the folder on the DW thumb drive to version 5.3.1 in the same operation. Hopefully Apple will continue to bring the experience of iPadOS to the Mac in this regard. The Mac still needs far too much tending & maintenance for my liking whereas my M1 iPad Pro needs essentially none and is doing more and more of what previously had to be done on the Mac. I also use Techtool Pro and CleanMyMacX as part of the armoury but macOS is now in charge of maintaining APFS volumes and I have had no cause to need any repair so far. This will be useful for the many HFS+ volumes that I still have that can now be checked by DW while running Ventura on my M1 MacBook Pro. ![]() What’s new in version 5. ![]() It then uses a fail-safe method of replacing the damaged directory to ensure that interruptions such as power outages won't harm your data. #1652: OS updates, DPReview shuttered, LucidLink cloud storage DiskWarrior verifies your repaired directory to ensure it is error free.#1653: Apple Music Classical review, Authory service for writers, WWDC 2023 dates announced.1654: Urgent OS security updates, upgrading to macOS 13 Ventura, using smart speakers while temporarily blind.#1655: 33 years of TidBITS, Twitter train wreck, tvOS 16.4.1, Apple Card Savings, Steve Jobs ebook.#1656: Passcode thieves lock iCloud accounts, the apps Adam uses, iPhoto and Aperture library conversion in Ventura. But as far as tools to repair Mac hard disks go, DiskWarrior is once again at the top of the list, thanks to a complete revamp with version 5. Remade for modern Macs and ready for big storageĪ recent backup should always be your first line of defense against a failing or corrupted hard drive.Recovers stuff I can't get using any other utility.I reboot the affected computer in Target mode (holding down the T key on boot) to try to connect its hard drive to the machine I want to run DiskWarrior from. That's how I used it: I have it installed on multiple computers, which I connect using a Thunderbolt cable. So it's a good utility to have on a backup hard drive that you use only for recovery, or even on a separate computer. To get the most out of it, DiskWarrior needs to be running from a drive other than the one you're trying to save. Those folks can set up DiskWarrior to monitor the drive's status and ping you if there's a problem - either through an alert, an e-mail, by executing an AppleScript or by sending a text message from an email account. ![]() information, but it has some uses, especially for system administrators and other support personnel who need to keep systems up and running around the clock. The amount of time it takes from start to finish depends entirely on what you're trying to restore and what the speed and working condition of the drive is, but it's much faster than it was before. Once you're satisfied that DiskWarrior has done its, you click on "Replace" and it does the rest. DiskWarrior goes through a process of creating, verifying and comparing a new directory to what's on the drive, then presents you with a "preview" that lets you examine the directory structure yourself, so you can see if anything's out of place.
